Productivity in Ramadan

The alarm clock has sounded its final alert—if you don’t stretch your legs and wake up now, you’ll miss your nap! You arrive at your office, staring blankly as you browse through your emails, occasionally glancing at your coffee cup, which has now turned into a pen holder! Its real purpose seems to have been lost these days.

At that moment, I congratulated myself for the habit I had developed recently of postponing my morning coffee and delaying my bedtime as part of a routine I had adopted for years to organize my behaviors in preparation for the working hours during Ramadan. Wishing you all a wonderful Ramadan workday, my friends… and a blessed month.

81.7%
of professionals feel more productive during Ramadan!

A recent survey titled "Ramadan in the Middle East and North Africa" was conducted to understand the behaviors and strategies followed by professionals during this month. 89% of respondents agreed that they feel more positive and optimistic about their career path, while 88% stated that overall morale improves during Ramadan.

A Month of Spirituality and Professional Growth

Despite the changes in workload, companies experience improvements in productivity during Ramadan, as most of these companies make special arrangements that contribute to enhancing the overall work environment. Some of the key arrangements include:

  • Providing flexible or shorter working hours

  • Offering more break periods during the day

  • Allowing leniency in terms of productivity and deadlines

  • Managers being considerate of religious and spiritual needs during Ramadan.

Solutions to Increase Productivity During Ramadan

  • Work at the Right Time:
Being smart about choosing the right times to accomplish tasks and job responsibilities, especially in the early hours of the morning. During these hours, the mind is at its peak activity, still benefiting from the high levels of absorption and comprehension due to the pre-dawn meal.

  • Tackle the Hard Tasks First:
Unlike advice that urges employees to complete the easier tasks first, prioritize the difficult ones early on to get them out of the way.

  • Avoid Distractions:
Start working immediately upon arriving at the office, avoiding distractions such as your smartphone, browsing websites, or engaging in side conversations with colleagues.

  • Rest is Necessary:
During fasting hours, be mindful of your physical and mental energy levels. Don't exhaust yourself by tackling one task after another. Instead, take a 10-minute break after every hour of work.

  • Take a Walk and Refresh Yourself:
Walk around your workspace a bit and wash your face to feel refreshed.
